Instead, you should focus on understanding your opponent’s range. A range is a group of hands that your opponent is likely to hold, and you should always bet against this range.
A hand that contains a pair of matching rank cards is called a two-pair hand. A three-of-a-kind is a three-card hand that has a matching rank in each of its suits. A straight is a set of consecutive cards in the same suit, such as 5-6-7-8-9. A full house is a four-card hand that contains a match in each of the suits. If all the cards are the same, the highest pair wins. If there’s a tie, the high card wins. If there are no pairs, the lowest card wins. If there are two equal pairs, the second highest pair wins. If there’s ace-high, then the highest ace wins. Finally, a flush is a combination of three matching cards. Lastly, a royal flush is a combination of an ace, king, queen, and jack.
